Why You Need an Air Receiver Tank
Reduce Compressor Cycling
Without sufficient storage, your compressor cycles on and off rapidly — increasing wear, reducing motor life and wasting energy. A correctly sized receiver dramatically extends your compressor's lifespan.
Handle Demand Spikes
Pneumatic tools, spray guns and production machinery create sudden demand spikes. An air receiver provides instant storage to buffer these peaks without pressure drop at the point of use.
Moisture Separation
Air receivers act as a primary moisture separator — warm, moist air cools in the tank and water condensate drops out before reaching your pipework and tools, protecting equipment and finish quality.
Air Receiver Sizing Guide
| Compressor Size | FAD (approx.) | Recommended Receiver | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7.5 kW | 1.0 m³/min | 200–500 L | Small workshop, tyre shop |
| 11–15 kW | 1.5–2.0 m³/min | 500 L | Automotive workshop, fabrication |
| 22–30 kW | 3.0–4.0 m³/min | 500–1000 L | Medium factory, spray booth |
| 37–55 kW | 5.0–8.0 m³/min | 1000–2000 L | Production line, packaging |
| 75–110 kW | 10–15 m³/min | 2000–3000 L | Large factory, mining support |
| 132 kW+ | 18+ m³/min | 5000 L+ | Heavy industry, multiple users |

Air Receiver FAQs
Yes. All our air receiver tanks are pressure vessels manufactured and tested to SANS/PED standards. Each unit is supplied with a safety pressure relief valve, drain valve and inspection certificate confirming compliance with South African pressure vessel regulations.
A general rule of thumb is to size the receiver at 6–10 times the compressor's FAD in litres. For example, a 7.5 kW compressor delivering 1.0 m³/min (1,000 L/min) would suit a 500–1,000 L receiver. Larger receivers reduce cycling frequency and improve system pressure stability. Contact us for a free sizing recommendation.
Yes. We sell air receivers as standalone products. Whether you need to upgrade an existing system, add buffer storage to a ring main, or replace a worn vessel, we can supply any size directly.
Yes. We deliver compressed air receiver tanks across South Africa including Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and all major centres. Large receivers (2000 L+) are transported on flat-bed trucks — lead times vary by size and location.
